Gary R. Cole, 61, of Deer Run, Lancaster, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014, at his residence. Born Sunday, August 24, 1952 in Albany, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Warren Preston Cole and Waunola A. Cole of Albany, Kentucky. He was a member of Hyattsville Baptist Church; Treasurer at Good Hope Baptist Church from 1987 to 2002; Graduate of Berea College, with graduate degrees from EKU; and taught Social Studies 29 years at Berea Community Elementary. Along with his father, he is preceded in death by his mother-in-law Nancy King McQuerry. Survivors, other than his mother, include his wife, Rachel McQuerry Cole, of Lancaster, KY; a daughter, Abigail Cole of Lexington, KY; father-in-law, Earl McQuerry of Lancaster, KY; an uncle, Gayle (Velma) Pitman of Albany, KY; a brother-in-law, Marty (Donna) McQuerry of Lancaster, KY; a niece, Scarlet (Justin) Smothers of Perryville, KY; nephews, Elijah (Morgan) McQuerry of Versailles, KY, and Blake Dawson of Lancaster, KY; grandnieces, Lucy Sebastian and Sloane McQuerry; and his beloved cat, Josie. Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Ramsey Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Durham and Rev. John Todd officiating. Burial will follow in Paint Lick Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Roger Pitman, Wayne Cravens, Justin Smothers, Elijah McQuerry, Robert Gaffney and Gary Gaffney. Honorary Pallbearers will be Janie and June Gaffney, Linda Cox, Paula Logan, Crystal Brothers, Kim Woolums, Steve Riddle, David and Evelyn White, Margaret Davis, Virginia Stump, Brett Higgins, and Josh Duncan. Visitation will be 11:00 am until the time of service on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at Ramsey Funeral Home.
