Geneva Rhodus Broaddus Fothergill, age 100, passed away Monday, February 17, 2020 at her home in Cartersville. She was born March 8, 1919 in Madison County to the late Walter Rhodus and Lillie McDonald Rhodus. Geneva lived the last 60 years in her home that she built on the farm that her parents bought in 1952. She loved her home and enjoyed planting her fruit trees, her flowers, and most importantly her vegetable garden. She truly enjoyed gardening, and continued to do so until she was in her late 90's. She enjoyed canning the vegetables from the garden and gave away as much as she kept. She also loved to cook, sew, quilt and take care of her cat "Smokey". Geneva was the oldest living member of the Leavel Green Christian Church in Garrard county where she had been a member since 1947. She loved her church and her church family. She always looked forward to the Mother's day service where she would be recognized for being the oldest mother in attendance. Geneva was preceded in death by her two husbands, Edward Broaddus and Earl Fothergill, her five sons, John Edward Broaddus, Virgil Shelby Broaddus, Walter Noland "Butch" Broaddus, Ronald Joe Broaddus, and Stanton Wayne Broaddus. She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter Natasha Broaddus, one great grandson, Adam Prewitt. Geneva was also preceded in death by one sister, and five brothers. Geneva is survived by her daughter, Brenda J. Buntin, her four grandsons, James Virgil (Candace) Prewitt, John Brian (Gretchen) Prewitt, Brandon Broaddus, and Noland Broaddus, and her two granddaughters, Shelby Jean Tillery, and Rachelle Broaddus, her five great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters, Delora Howerton, Woodbine, Maryland, Joy Lawson, Somerset and her one brother, Douglas Rhodus, Cartersville. She was also blessed to have two wonderful caregivers, Delores Powell, Berea, and Janet Ridgell, Mt Vernon. Visitation will be Thursday evening, February 20 from 5:30pm to 8pm. Funeral will be on Friday, February 21 at 1pm. Both visitation and funeral service will be at Ramsey-Young Funeral Home 315 Richmond Street, Lancaster, Ky 40444. Burial will be at the Lancaster cemetery. Casket Bearers will be James Virgil Prewitt, John Brain Prewitt, Eric Nathanial Prewitt, Rachelle Broaddus, Harold Douglas Rhodus, and Mark Canada.
