James L. "Buck" Merida, 86, of Nicholasville, passed away Friday, January 25, 2019 in Lexington, Ky. Born July 26, 1932 in Garrard County, he was a son of the late William Merida & Ophelia Oakes Arnold. Buck had been a barber for many years, retired from the Nicholasville Post Office where he had worked 25 years and had been a longtime employee of a local Nicholasville funeral home. He was also an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict , and a longtime and faithful member of Edgewood Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Delbert Merida. He is survived by his best friend and wife, Juanita Woods Merida of Nicholasville, and a large host of nieces, nephews & great nieces and nephews. Buck's funeral service will be held 12 Noon Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Edgewood Baptist Church in Nicholasville, by Revs. Bob Blankenship & Donnie Reed. Burial with military rites will take place at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey & Brian Durham, George, Billy Ray, Cliff and Matthew Woods. Honorary bearers will be John West, Danny Patrick & Members of the Jim Smith Sunday School Class. Visitation will be held Monday, January 28th from 4-8 PM at the Edgewood Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy go to the Hospice of the Bluegrass.
