Obituary

J.O. (James) Burkhead, 72, of Lancaster, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017 at his home. Born April 18, 1945 in Spencer County, Ky., he was a son of the late Silas Andrew & Hallie Ann Goodlett Burkhead. J.O. was retired from the Kentucky Dept. of Fish & Wildlife as a Law Enforcement Officer, had served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a Sergeant, was a member Brookside Baptist Church, the Contemporary Long Rifle Association, and the National Muzzle Loader Rifle Association. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Gordon Andrew Burkhead and a sister in law, Judy Burkhead. His survivors include his wife of 47 years: Judy Hisel Burkhead, one son, Brian Clay (Paige) Burkhead, of Lancaster, Ky., two daughters, Kristy Burkhead (Tony) Jury of Owen County, Ky., Nana (Chris) Rogers of Independence, Ky., two brothers, Danny Dale Burkhead of Georgetown, Ky and Herbert Alan (Ann) Burkhead of Georgetown, Tx., as well as one sister, Mamie (Ralph) Richardson of Shelbyville, and a sister in law, Judy Smith of Omaha, Nebraska. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Breanna Lynn Burkhead, James Andrew Burkhead, Lori Ann Burkhead, Josiah Sawyer Jury & Jeremiah Archer Jury, Alexis Rogers & Ethan Rogers. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Ramsey-Young Funeral Home by Mr. Joe Bland & Bro. Brian Burkhead. Burial with military rites will take place at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with services provided by the Patriot Guard & the Caswell Saufley Post #18 of the American Legion. Pallbearers will be Buck Goode, Chip McInnis, Rex Burkhead, David Thurman, Keith Ethington, Larry Hagan, Richard Hines and Keith Grigsby. Honorary bearers will be all other retired officers of the Dept. of Fish & Wildlife and Dr. Baird Foree. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Monday, July 17, 2017 at the funeral home.
