Obituary

JoAnn Spivey, 88 of Lexington, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at her residence. Born Thursday, July 09, 1931 in Garrard County, she was a daughter to the late John Ison & Ollie Mae Scott Naylor. JoAnn was a teacher at Fayette County School System for 37 years and a long time member of Southern Hills Methodist Church. She was also active in the Winetasting Club of the Bluegrass, the Paragon Theater, enjoyed ballroom dancing as well as a strong supporter of the Opera House in Lexington and an Alumni supporter of Asbury College. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Bascom Spivey, brother; John "Jack" Naylor, sisters; Nellie Masser, Thelma Ruble, Dorothy Amstutz, Esther Wiley. Survivors include her daughters; Denise (Bradford) Stocker of Lexington, Aletha (James) Turner of Lexington, Shelley (Donald) Kozlowsky of Lexington, 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild due in February. Funeral Services for JoAnn will be held at 12:00pm Saturday, November 09, 2019 at Southern Hills Methodist Church in Lexington, with Rev. Bill Moore officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 PM at the Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster Kentucky. Pall Bearers include; Sean Stocker, Brooke Conner, Ian Kozlowsky, Ryan Stocker, Spenser Dodson, Rod Stocker & Chase Kozlowsky. Visitation will be from 10:00am until service time on Saturday, November 09, 2019 at the church. Friends & family may share memories or leave condolences on her tribute wall at www.ramsey-young.com. Ramsey-Young Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers please send Memorial contributions to the John Ison and Ollie Mae Naylor Endowed Scholarship at Asbury University, One Macklem Dr., Wilmore, Kentucky 40390. There will also be a gathering with food and drinks for all friends and family at the Spivey Home immediately following at 5400 Bethel Rd, Lexington KY 40511.
