John Howard West, 80, of Nicholasville, formerly of Lancaster, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2024 in Nicholasville. John was born in Fayette County, to the late John Marrs & Doris Poindexter West on March 3, 1944. He had been retired from building sales for the Hayden Company, and a member of Lancaster Methodist Church and the Thoroughbred Bass Club. John spent much of his life as a dedicated and active member of the Freemasons since he was inducted in July 26, 1976. He had also served as Past Master of the Lancaster Lodge # 104, the Nicholasville Lodge #61 and the Crab Orchard Lodge.
John is survived by his wife of 42 years, Monica Vaught West, three daughters, Cynthia (Mark) Sheldon of Omaha, Nebraska, Jennifer (Bryan) Mayton of Corbin, Kentucky, Morgan (Martin Andrew) Brogli of Nicholasville, and brother Charles Edward (the late Brenda) West of Danville. He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, Kelsie (Adam) Prince, Savannah (Tyler) Eversole, Catherine (Cody) Goforth, Rebecca (Gavin) Sheldon, Joshua Sheldon, Noa Claire Brogli, & Mia Drew Brogli , as well as five great grandchildren, Jase & Mallory Prince, Maddie Eversole, Wyatt Goforth, Luna Trimble, and three best friends, Debbie Lovitt, Billy Thompson, & Michael Davis.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Ramsey—Young Funeral Home with a Masonic Service performed by Nicholasville Lodge #61, Rev. Joshua Wiggs & Rev. Daryl Hodge. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers include James Ward, Ryan Ward, Mike Lake, Jerry Marc Lovitt, Brian Burkhart, Bryan Mayton, and Julian Turpin. Honorary pallbearers include Michael Davis, Billy Thompson, and Mark May.
Burial will follow in Lancaster Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may go to Lancaster Methodist Church Memorial Fund. Friends and family may share memories of condolences on his tribute page at www.ramsey-young.com
