Norma Jean Kurtz DeVore, 85, of Stanford, KY passed away peacefully at her home on November 9, 2022, from kidney failure. She was one of 15 children born to the late Thomas and Mary Kurtz on September 21, 1937 in Harrodsburg, KY. She is preceded in death by her late husband, James Dennis DeVore; sister Vera Mae Kurtz Patterson, sister Velma Magalene Kurtz Carter, brother Maxwell Kurtz, brother Robert Carter Kurtz, sister Alice Margarette Kurtz Stocker, sister Mary Albertine Kurtz Underwood, sister Dollie Ann Kurtz Graham, and brother Harold Judas Kurtz. She is survived by sister Edith Pearl Kurtz Matthews, sister Juanita Kurtz Wright, brother Clell B. Kurtz, sister Ida B. Kurtz Hurt, and sister Betty Joyce Kurtz Wooldridge. Her extended family included too many nieces and nephews, their spouses and children to name here.

Survivors include daughters Blinda Sue Labrador and Denise Joyce DeVore. She is also survived by six grandchildren whom she loved dearly: William R. Martin, II (Traci), Jason D. Martin (Jaime), Christopher W. Martin, Jennifer L. Massie (Tommy), Amber S. Huston (Jonathon), and Bernard L. Hamilton, III (Krystal). She felt blessed to have eight great-grandchildren: Chelsea A. Martin, Joshua A. Martin, James D. Martin, Jillian W. Martin, Rachel J. Sanchez, Angela N. Sanchez, Kaylee M. Huston, and Alyssa R. Huston.

Norma retired from retail management in 2002 but held several positions over her working career including being self-employed with Home Interiors, and Sarah Coventry. In her younger years she was a Junior Girl Scout Troop Leader, an avid bowler and golfer.

She accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of the Stanford Christian Church at the time of her death.  Her service will be conducted by her minister Jeremy Johnson. Pallbearers include her grandsons William Martin, Jason Martin, Bernard Hamilton, III, and Jonathon Huston, her great-grandson Joshua Martin, and former son-in-law Bernard Hamilton, Jr.

A one-day service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2002, at Ramsey Young Funeral Home in Lancaster, KY. Visitation is open to all family and friends from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. A short service will follow. There will not be a commitment ceremony at the Lancaster Cemetery.

Norma's favorite flowers were daisies, lilies, mums and roses. In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Research organization.
