Obituary

Raymond "Ray" Woolsey died peacefully in his home on Friday, September 26, 2014 in Lancaster, KY at the age of 68. He is preceded in death by his parents Glen Woolsey and Lucille Mooney and his brother Eddie Woolsey. Ray is survived by his children, Dawn Lowery (Myron Lowery) of Fort Mill, SC and Bryan Woolsey (Kim Woolsey) of Frederick, MD; his sister, Glenda Fei of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; companion, Tina Woolsey ; step daughter, Heather Ferrell and a host of other family and friends. Ray adored his grandchildren, Zanna Lowery, Ella Lowery, Ryan Hessong and Erin Hessong. Ray was born on August 19, 1946 and grew up in Hollywood, FL. A college athletic scholarship brought him to West Virginia in the 1960s. After graduation from Concord College, he began a career with the state of West Virginia in education. He accepted his first teaching position in 1969 and continued to have various teaching and administrative positions in McDowell, Mingo, Wyoming and Grant Counties. He retired with the state of West Virginia as the superintendent of Logan County Schools in 2001. He then moved to Lancaster, KY where he was employed as the superintendent of Garrard County Schools, KY through 2009. He served as a member of the West Virginia State House of Delegates 19th District from 1985 through 1986. Ray enjoyed traveling, playing golf and trying his hand at multiple business opportunities. He always wanted to drive tractor trailers cross country and was able to fulfill that dream when he bought his first truck in 2010. He was always willing to take a risk which allowed him to live a very full life. A celebration of his life is scheduled for 1:00 PM Saturday, October 4 at Ramsey Funeral Home, Lancaster, KY, with visitation from 12 - 1 PM prior to the service. A reception will follow at the family's home (136 Field Street, Lancaster) from 3-6 PM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ray's life.
