Obituary

Russell W. Rankin, 90, formerly of Lancaster, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Charter Senior Living Center in Edgewood, Kentucky. Born March 05, 1930 in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late John Wesley & Katherine Holtzclaw Rankin. Russell was an engineer & a United States Army veteran. He was wounded in action during the Korean War. He was an avid traveler, a member of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association & was part of the Professional Engineers of Northern Kentucky. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Rose Sowder Rankin; brother, John Lee Rankin; sisters, Louellyn R. Baker, Georgia R. Cole & Anna Katherine Jones. Survivors include nephews, Robert R. (Brenda) Baker, of Stanford, David W. (Penny) Rankin, of Lancaster, Tim (Cathy) Ray, of Norwood, Ohio, Greg (Kelly) Houlihan, of Fort Thomas, Kentucky, Bill (Jennifer) Houlihan, of Louisville, Daniel Houlihan, of Lexington; nieces Melinda (Bill) Davis, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kathryn Lynn Argabrite, of Norfolk, Virginia & Holly Cole, of Jeffersonville, Indiana; special niece & nephew, Adeleide Rankin Davis, Robert Daniel Davis & a sister-in-law, Penny Houlihan. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 08, 2021 at Lancaster Cemetery with Bro. Daryl Hodge officiating & burial to follow.
