Obituary

Vivian Carter Sides , 90, of West Maple Avenue, Lancaster, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Bluffs Nursing Home in Columbia, Missouri. Born December 12, 1923 in Middlesboro, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late George & Cora Linda Day Carter. She was a graduate of Thomas Walker High School in Rose Hill, Virginia, and became a registered nurse through training at Louisville General Hospital. In 1945, she married Paul J. Sides and they settled in Lancaster in 1949. She was a longtime member of Lancaster United Methodist Church. Her survivors include two sons, Paul J. (Patsy) Sides, Jr. of Kingsport, Tenn., Thomas R. (Laurie) Sides of Beckley, West Va., two daughters, Linda S. (Bill) Struckhoff of Columbia, Mo., and Marion S. (Jim) Vruggink of West Lafayette, In., a brother, Paul Carter of Starke, Fl., two sisters, Betty Saunders of Graceville, Fl., and Joyce Norman of Starke, Fl., 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, July 28, 2014 at the Lancaster United Methodist Church by Rev. Bob Coppings with burial following in Lancaster Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill, Tom , Kevin & Jason Struckhoff, Jonathon Sides & Jim Vruggink. Visitation will be from 2-4 PM Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Ramsey Funeral Home and from 10:00 AM Monday till service time at the church. In lieu of flowers , contributions may go to Lancaster United Methodist Church.
