Barbara W. Switzer, 87, of Lancaster, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Baptist Health of Lexington. Born June 10, 1936 in Georgetown, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late George & Bessie Beatrice Wilhoite Wright. Barbara was a former police officer at the Orange County Sheriffs Department, as well as a Kentucky Colonel. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, “Red Hatters", in Okeechobee, Florida & attended Springs Valley Wesleyan Church through Facebook Live, whom she considered her church family. Barbara was an animal lover & a fine Christian woman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband & life partner, Clarence B. Switzer, Sr.; son-in-law, Kenneth "Plummer" Plummer; grandsons, Brandon Scott “Poomer” Plummer, Cody Ray Plummer & Chase Renfro, as well as her 8 brothers & sisters.
Survivors include a son, Clarence B. (Janet Berry) Switzer, Jr., of Lexington; daughter, Carol (the late Kenneth “Plummer”) Plummer, of Lancaster; grandchildren, Alicia & Spencer Renfro, 7 great-grandchildren, and her best friend, Debbie Bailey.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Lancaster Cemetery with Rev. John Moffett officiating. Barbara’s wishes include that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Springs Valley Wesleyan Church, in French Lick, Indiana, as well as the Jessamine Humane Society.
