Elizabeth Ruth “Betty” Carmack, age 92, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026. Born on September 15, 1933, in Paint Lick, Kentucky, Betty lived a long and meaningful life devoted to family, learning, and the simple joys that brought people together. She was residing in Kingsport, Tennessee at the time of her passing.
Betty was a woman of remarkable intellect and curiosity. She earned advanced degrees, including a Master of Science from East Tennessee State University and a Master of Arts from Eastern Kentucky University. Her lifelong thirst for knowledge was evident in her love of reading and her deep interest in genealogy and family history where she worked tirelessly to preserve the stories of those who came before her.
She found joy in the kitchen, preparing homemade meals that became cherished family traditions, and she expressed her creativity through crafting. She also had a deep love of gardening, taking pride in nurturing flowers and plants that brought beauty and peace to her home. Betty was an avid fan of University of Kentucky basketball and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on her team.
Above all, Betty treasured her family. She is survived by her four children: Jennifer (Craig) Earl, Nancy Holbrook, George Carmack (Margaret Jones), and Midd (Seri) Carmack. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews - all of whom were blessed by her love, wisdom, and steady presence.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruick and Hazel Beasley; her siblings, George “Buzz” Beasley and Kathleen “Kitty” Jenkins; her son-in-law, Tony Holbrook; her grandson, Brent White; and her granddaughter, Abigail Carmack.
A special mention to her close neighbors and friends, Larry and Barbara Carrier and Wayne and Laura Morris who have become extended family due to their love and caring over the years.
Betty’s legacy is one of devotion—to her family, to learning, and to the traditions she lovingly passed down. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
