Bruce Edward Mulcahy “Bop,” 88, of Lancaster, Kentucky, passed away from his earthly home on April 17, 2026. He was born August 1, 1937, in Nicholasville, Kentucky, to Myrtie Mae Caywood Mulcahy and Robert Lucian Mulcahy and step mother Virginia Ball Mulcahy. He was a lifelong Jessamine County resident until his marriage.
Bruce was a proud veteran of the United States Army, enlisting on October 26, 1959. He served as a wheel vehicle mechanic in Seoul, Korea, during the Korean War era and was extended during the Berlin deal, completing his service on February 26, 1962.
He was a devoted husband to his wife of 40 years, Carolyn Dorton Mulcahy, and a loving father to his five children: Jennifer O’Donnell (Steve); Bruce E. Mulcahy Jr (Maria), Stephanie Montgomery Hodge; Herbert Todd Montgomery (Kelly); and Kevin Montgomery (Megan). He was also preceded in death by a beloved son, Robert Edward Mulcahy. He was a proud grandfather to Thad Hulett (Shania), Ali Morris (Curtis), Blake O’Donnell, Garrison Montgomery, Elliot Yaden (Bryson), Isabella Montgomery, and Isaac Clay Montgomery, and a cherished great-grandfather to Rhett Hulett and Reagan Caroline Morris. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Copper.
Bruce was a faithful member and trustee of Forks of Dix River Baptist Church, a Mason of Hart Lodge #61, and a member of the Patriot Guard Riders. His faith, service, and commitment to honoring others—especially fellow veterans—were defining parts of his life.
Known for his strong work ethic and attention to detail, Bruce spent many years working at VR Wesson and later operated his own mechanic garage. In 1978, he purchased Garrard Farm Equipment, a John Deere dealership, which he owned and operated for 16 years. Through his work, he built lasting relationships and a solid reputation with farmers and customers.
Bruce loved riding his Honda Goldwing motorcycle and proudly visited 49 of the 50 states. He was also a lifelong hunter, with a passion for deer and squirrel hunting. Among his many hunting ventures, he once hunted wild boar in Florida and harvested a black bear in Maine.
In his retirement years, Bruce especially enjoyed tinkering in his garage and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly knew him as “Bop.”
Bruce loved deeply for those who loved him. He was fiercely loyal and dependable without recognition.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, step-mother, brother Ricky Mulcahy, son, and his riding companion and dear friend, Jerry “Poppy” Compton, and lifelong friend Danny Sauls.
Bruce will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service to his country, his strong faith, and the many lives he touched throughout his years.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Fork of Dix River Baptist Church. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with full military honors.
