Clay Woodford Gaffney, 93, of Lancaster, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2022 at his home.
Born in Garrard County on July 6, 1929, he was a of the late Harrison Gaffney & Mary Francis Chadwell Gaffney. Clay served in the United States Army as a paratrooper with the 11th division. Stationed at Fort Campbell and Japan. He owned his own construction business for some time and after retirement drove for FedEx for years.
Clay is survived by his daughter Peggy Susan Gaffney, of Lancaster and LT. Col. William Harrison Gaffney (Penney) of Homosassa, Florida. Three grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Aside from his parents, Clay is preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Brackett Gaffney, wife Carol Lafferty and six sibling; William C. Gaffney, Ada Florence Gaffney Dailey, Marietta Gaffney Die, W.H. Gaffney, Lucille Gaffney Oxendine and James Alfred Gaffney. Also one nephew and two nieces.
Surviving are siblings Jean Gaffney Lister (Norman), Ralph Gaffney (Geneva), Shirley Gaffney Scully and one sister-in-law Brooks Ray Gaffney, all of Garrard County.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, November 21, 2022 at Lancaster Cemetery with Isaac Hall officiating and burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may go to Heritage Hospice and the VA Hospital in Lexington.
