Donald VanHook Obituary

Donald Edward VanHook, 67, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at UK Medical Center in Lexington. He was born to the late Donald Lee & Mae Etta Benge VanHook on September 17, 1957, in Somerset. Donald was an injection molding engineer for Whirlpool and Toyota. He enjoyed fishing, flea markets, and collecting coins & arrowheads. Donald was also a member of Mt. Moriah Christian Church.

Aside from his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Trudy Benge. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Vicky Gourley VanHook, of Stanford; a daughter, Heather (Chad) Caldwell, of Danville; a brother, Gary (Judy) VanHook, of Somerset; sisters, Annette (Chris) Morse, of Florida & Amy (Doug) Judy, of North Carolina; grandchildren, Addison & Baylee Caldwell; and he was known as “Poppy” to Mackenna Sims.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Mt. Moriah Christian Church with Bro. Bill Gooch officiating and burial following at the cemetery. Pallbearers include Gary VanHook, Darrell Gourley, Chad Caldwell, Alex Gourley, Andrew Gourley, and Jason Sims. Honorary pallbearers include Dick Matthews, Danny Elkins, Kenneth LeMonds, Randy Schneider, Jacob Ray, and Josh Ray. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM — 8:00 PM Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Mt. Moriah Christian Church. Friends and family my leave condolences are special memories on his tribute wall at www.ramsey-young.com. Ramsey-Young Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
