Elizabeth “Libby” Wheeler Wilson, 79, of Orlando, Florida and Lancaster, Kentucky, passed away peacefully in hospice care on April 11, 2026. Born June 20, 1946 in Danville, she was a daughter of the late Conn and Dorothy Crutchfield Wheeler. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Gerald D. Wheeler and a husband, Julian Matlock.
She is survived by her husband, Gilbert D. Wilson, a son, Logan (Michele) Wilson, a grandson , Luke Wilson, a nephew, Warren (Amy) Wheeler , grand-nephews, Cameron and Charlie and a niece , Laura Todd.
Libby graduated from Garrard County High School, and Eastern Kentucky State College in 1968, obtaining her degree in Education, and further returning back to the Garrard County school system to give back to her community for over 27 years, retiring in 1995.
While in Garrard County, she enjoyed visiting her many friends, locally, and as far away as Australia. She enjoyed antiquing, boating on Herrington Lake, swimming, and playing golf at Dix River Country Club. After retirement, she relocated to Florida with her husband, and continued more of the same social activities, establishing a local group of friends, and initiating a rotating poker game with other couples. She became a “snowbird” however, dividing time between Florida and Kentucky. On her return visits, she enjoyed visiting old friends, and riding around the area, pointing out people, places and their back history.
Graveside funeral services for Libby will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Lancaster Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until 2:00 PM Monday at Ramsey-Young Funeral Home.
