It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Elnora Jenkins. Born in Harlan county Kentucky on June 15th, 1932 to Dewey Lincoln and Patsy Melvine Alred, born third in the line of six children she was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Leon Alred, Jack Alred and Robert Alred, survived by two sisters, Lois Walker of Knoxville Tennessee and Jane Foster of Lake City Tennessee and their extended families.
She leaves behind her loving family, son, Gary and wife Debra Jenkins of Stanford Kentucky, their sons and families.
Grandson Brian Jenkins, wife Kristy and great grandson, Jackson Jenkins of Stanford Kentucky.
Grandson Brandon Jenkins, wife Nicole and great grandchildren Carson and Kylie of Stanford Kentucky.
Daughter, Patricia Petinarides, husband John of Waxhaw North Carolina and their sons and family
Grandson Christopher and wife Lauren Smith and their daughters. Great granddaughters Sophie Kate, Amelia Grace and Elizabeth Faith of Waxhaw, North Carolina.
Grandson Ryan and wife Brittany Smith, of Lancaster, South Carolina
Son Archie and wife Kathy of Harlan, Kentucky and granddaughter Kaitlin Jenkins of Lexington, Kentucky.
Mother retold wonderful stories of growing up in Sunshine holler, playing outside in the hot summer evenings to the sound of grasshopper fluttering through the tall grass or the six brothers and sisters catching lightning bugs in mason jars for a magical display in the night, also eating granny Alred’s biscuits with home churned butter and drizzled honey as a treat!
A simple life but full of love, adventures and dreams that can only be seen through the eyes of a child.
Her caring nature was exhibited in her career as a nurses aid in the Harlan Appalachian Regional hospital taking care of others needs. She will forever be remembered in our hearts as we recall the stories that connected our lives to hers.
You are welcome to come celebrate her life with us on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 11:00 am in the sanctuary of the Maple Ave Church of Christ 219 West Maple Ave., Lancaster, KY.
The service will begin at 11 AM followed by a luncheon provided by the ladies fellowship in the Fellowship Hall on the grounds at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to her church, The Maple Avenue Church of Christ, in her honor. Ramsey-Young Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
