Freda Johnson

Freda L Powell Johnson, 82 of Lancaster, passed away Friday, December 1, 2023 at her home. She was born at Panola in Waco, KY on August 30, 1941 to the late Dewey and Nellie Powell. Freda was a hard worker all her life. She enjoyed sewing, homemaking, and was the piano player for her church. Freda was a member of Gilead Baptist Church in Richmond and was a former member of Freedom Baptist Church in Lancaster. Many friends and loved ones knew her as owner & operator of Nina Ridge Store in rural Garrard County.

Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Erthel Johnson; sisters, the late Gumena Crowe, the late Opal Metcalfe, the late Modina Winkler, the late Margie McQueen, and the late Brenda Louise Powell; brothers, the late W.M. Jennings Harrison, the late Delbert Powell, the late Ronnie Powell, and the late Douglas Powell; step son, the late Cecil Ray Johnson; and grandson, the late Joseph Mitchell Moore. Survivors include a son, Steve (Melanie) Moore, of Lancaster; grandchildren, Sarah (Eric) Saylor & Andrew Moore, both of Lancaster; great-grandchildren, Hope Saylor, Tori Saylor, and Abigail Moore; step-sons, Phillip (Bethany) Johnson, of Richmond & Curtis Eugene Johnson, of Nicholasville; a step-daughter, Evita Johnson, of Ohio; and many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday, December 5, 2023 with Rev. Mark Gabbard officiating and a private burial. Pallbearers include Wade Moore, Jerry Dick, Earl Miller, Pete Kraska, Chris Gifford, and J.J. Davidson. Honorary pallbearers include Mike Whittaker, Paul Allen, Freda Bolton, Linda Allen, Hellen Wagoner, Allen Johnson, Larry Winkler, Don Chambers, Mike Oakley, and Kenny Walton. Visitation will from 11:00 am until service time Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Freedom Baptist Church in Lancaster.
