Gleason E. Wells, 90, of Lancaster, passed away on November 20, 2024, in his home, surrounded by the love of his family. Gleason was born March 30th, 1934 in Lancaster, Kentucky, to the late Forrest and Myrtle Wells.
Gleason married his wife, the late Patricia Watkins Wells, on January 10th, 1954.
Gleason held many titles throughout his life. He was an employee and partner of Burdette Wholesale for the better part of his working career. He also worked for many years as a salesman for Moss Wholesale Flowers, turning customers into friends with his never-ending supply of jokes and comedic stories all over the state.
Gleason was a veteran of the Korean War and a long-time member of Masonic Lodge #104 in Lancaster, Kentucky.
As an avid golfer, Gleason and his late wife Patricia both enjoyed their time on the green, often planning trips to play different courses across several states. They also enjoyed heading to Belle Glade, Florida on Lake Okeechobee during the winter months. During their time there they made many new friends that was considered family. Gleason could be found at the steering wheel of one of his many "toys" at any time. Whether it was pulling a kid behind the boat skiing, taking the entire family fishing, or barreling down I-40 for a family vacation in the RV to North Carolina, the Captain's seat was his happy place.
A lifelong "tinkerer," Gleason could always be found in the basement "fixing" something. There was no job too big and no machinery "too broken" to be considered too much of a challenge for him. Gleason was a staple at the local parts house due to his tinkering and made many friends while sitting on that stool on Stanford Street. He was the family handyman and helped extensively with his daughters and granddaughters' homes. He has built, sawed, refinished, made to fit, or carried some part of all the homes of his loved ones.
He leaves behind a sister, Mildred Lester; his three daughters, Kay Wells, Teresa Wells, and Sandy Wells; two granddaughters, Meagen (Robert) Baxley and Caitlin Christopher (Daniel Campbell); a host of nieces and nephews; and an extra special great-grandson, his boy, Grayson Baxley.
Gleason’s wishes for cremation have been honored at this time. A celebration of life will be held from 4:00 PM — 6:00 PM Monday, December 2, 2024 at Ramsey-Young Funeral Home.
