John William Casey died June 26th, 2022, at the age of 93 in Troy, MI. He was born in Garrard County May 20th, 1929. He is predeceased by his eight sisters: Clethia Francis Guy, Celesta May Keith, Nette Overly Casey, Lillie Geneva Mason, Edna Fay Murphy, Amanda E Prewitt, Zella Bea Preston, Anna Ruth Mason and one brother: Jesse Adolph Casey, as well as his parents Ida Sparks Casey and Jesse Casey.
John was a US Army combat Veteran having received the Bronze star for his service as a medic in the Korean War In 1951. After returning from the war, he settled in Detroit where he worked at the Cadillac assembly plant painting new cars. It was also in Detroit where he met and was married to Jacqueline Darlene (Sossoman) Casey until her death in 1973.
They are both survived by seven of their eight children: Linda (Richard) Randall of Trinidad, TX, Vicki (Richard) Hart of Clinton Twp, MI, John (Nubia) Casey of Red Oak, TX, David Casey of Waxahachie TX, Robert (Amy) Casey of Warren MI, Ronald Casey of Lexington KY, and Carol (Traian Taropa) Casey of Troy MI. He is predeceased by one son, Daryl Casey formerly of New Orleans LA.
He is survived by ten beloved grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren as well as many endeared nieces and nephews.
John is also predeceased by Shirly Dobbs of Science Hill, KY. John and Shirley were cherished friends and companions for more than 20 years. They met through shared love of ball room style dancing. He was the beloved Pawpaw to her grandchildren Latasha, Alisha, Crystal, Michael, Steven, and Shawn Dobbs' all of Science Hill, KY along with five great grandchildren.
John was eternally grateful for the many years of devoted friendship with Gene and Sue Smith of Science Hill, KY.
John was very generous to friends and family. He could always be counted on to help in any way that he could: and for the occasional hokey joke he loved to tell. He generously gave his time, money, and energy to organizations such as the Lions Club and DAV. For 45 years, John was a fervent supporter of St Jude Shrine in Baltimore MD and St Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis TN.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Ramsey-Young Funeral Home with Bro. Bob Casey officiating and burial following at Lancaster Cemetery. Caswell Saufley Post # 18 of the American Legion will be performing full military honors. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM Friday, July 1, 2022 at the funeral home.
