Retired Sergeant Major Lloyd Harrison, 79, of Lancaster, passed away May 19, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family. Lloyd was born April 4, 1947 in Estill County to the late Elmer & Beulah Woosley Harrison.
He had dedicated his life to proudly serving his county in the U.S. Army. Retired Sergeant Major Lloyd Harrison was a patriot of the highest order, dedicating his life to the defense of our nation as an elite warrior. A proudly decorated Green Beret, Sergeant Major Harrison served with immense distinction through multiple global conflicts, from the jungles of Vietnam to the sands of the Persian Gulf. As a member of the Special Forces, he achieved the elite designations of Master Parachutist, Scuba Diver, and Diving Supervisor, while mastering the complexities of Special Forces Operations and Intelligence. His extraordinary valor and leadership under fire earned him the Combat Infantry Badge and an astonishing eleven Bronze Star Medals. Over a lifetime of selfless service, he was further honored with the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. He leaves behind a legacy of courage, sacrifice, and unyielding devotion to his country and his brothers-in-arms.
After retirement, he became a member of the American Legion, the Patriot Guard and the VFW.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Rachford.
His survivors include his wife of 58 years, Pamela Lowry Harrison, three daughters, Kimberly (Jerry) Russell of Raeford, North Carolina, Sondra Lee (the late Justin) Nicodemus of Berea, & Gina (Tim) Robertson of Danville. He is also survived by 5 brothers and sisters, Dallas Harrison of Irvine, Darrell Harrison of Winchester, Loretta Stacey of Richmond, Nettie Wiseman of Stanford, and Ruby Webb of Irvine. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Aubri Mayhew, Kyrie Brosher, Kalen Perez, Amber and Abigail Nicodemus, and two great grandchildren Melody Mayhew & Nicholas Brosher and a large host of cherished nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 AM Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at Ramsey Young Funeral Home by Bro. Clayton Brosher. Burial with military honors will be 12:30 PM Tuesday at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Danny Ray Wiseman, Randall Harrison, James Harrison, Tim Robertson, Keith Barnes, & Brian Wiseman.
