Louvena Morelock Gilliam, a beacon of warmth and wisdom, passed away May 3rd, 2024, in Richmond, Kentucky, after a long illness. She was a caring wife, mother, and grandmother, born to Barney and Grace Morelock, on November 6th, 1939. Lou was born and raised in Kingsport, Tennessee, where she grew up with several siblings.
Louvena graduated valedictorian from Sullivan High School and then went on to pursue her dream of becoming one of the first female Chemistry majors at Berea College of Liberal Arts. This is where her heart was stolen by her deceased husband, Clyde Gilliam. Together they had two children, Diane, and Charles.
Louvena was enthusiastically self-employed as a representative for Stanley Home Products as a young wife and mother. After relocating to Cynthiana, she was gainfully employed by both Jockey Industries and 3M Company, from which she retired.
Louvena loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family and friends. She loved problem-solving, puzzles of all kinds (especially jigsaw puzzles) and watching her favorite shows on television.
No matter our ages, we have all accumulated some degree of wisdom through Louvena’s stories.
Though she has begun her next chapter beyond this world, her love will be forever carried in all our hearts and souls.
Louvena is survived by her children, Diane and Charles Gilliam, her daughter-in-law, Cristina Gilliam, and her grandsons, Austin Coombs, and Mason Gilliam. She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Gilliam.
She is survived by her sister, Christine Blair and was preceded in death by her siblings, Tom Morelock, Rex Morelock, Frances Harless, Shelby Morelock, Fred Irwin Morelock, and several nieces and nephews.
