Marie Sowder Black, 91 of Lancaster, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2025 at Henson Park Health & Rehabilitation in Danville. Born on Monday, April 23, 1934, in Garrard County, she was a daughter of the late Grant & Nancy Owens Sowder. Marie was a former employee at Palm Beach for over 25 years, and was a member of Lancaster Baptist Church. She loved being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was happiest when spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Black, as well as 15 brothers & sisters.
Survivors include her daughters, Tammy (Bill) Bryant, of Lancaster, Kentucky, and Tanya (Tommy) Edwards, of Birmingham, Alabama; sister, Hazel Cornett, of London, Kentucky; grandchildren, Jason (Brandi) Hardwick, Ben Robinson, Erin (Joe) Hill, and Ashley (Brett) Ables; great-grandchildren, Mattie, Cole, & Archer Hardwick, and Aidan & Kohen Hill.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at Ramsey-Young Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Rhodus officiating and burial following at Lancaster Cemetery. Pallbearers include Tommy Edwards, Ben Robinson, Jason, Cole & Mattie Hardwick, and Rodney Mobley. Honorary pallbearers include Bill Bryant, Archer Hardwick, and the entire staff at Henson Park Health & Rehabilitation. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until service time on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at the funeral home.
