Robert "Buddy" Hulett Obituary

Robert Oliver “Buddy” Hulett, born January 9, 1940, passed away surrounded by the legacy of a life defined by devotion to family, friends and community,  He was the son of the late Robert Franklin Hulett and Althea Bogie Hulett and was lovingly raised by his late grandparents, Calvin Milton Hulett and Annie Hurte Hulett, whose guidance shaped the man he became.

Buddy grew up in the Bryantsville Methodist church and made a profession of faith.

He married the love of his life, Shirley Jean Scott, on February 17, 1957. Their 37 years of marriage were filled with love and partnership until her passing in 1994.

Other than his parents and grandparents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Patsy Miller.

A lifelong farmer and dedicated county employee, he gave more than 40 years as a volunteer with the Camp Dick Fire Department, demonstrating a quiet commitment to helping others. His love for agriculture and rural life was matched only by his passion for the traditions he cherished.

Buddy found joy in fishing and coon hunting in his younger years with his prized dog “Dot,” and showing walking horses. He faithfully attended the National Walking Horse Celebration for 57 years and was honored with induction into the Tennessee Walking Horse Association Hall of Fame in 2023,  reflecting his deep connection to the walking horse community. He was also a devoted fan of University of Kentucky basketball.

He was the proud father of four daughters: Kim Middleton (Billy C), Stacy May (Eric), Robin (the late Dave) Noe, and Bridgett Sebastian (Rusty). He leaves behind nine grandchildren: Joshua (Alan) Middleton, Derek (Keith) Middleton, Alexandra (James) Middleton, Billy (Vanessa) May, Brett (Kelsey) May, Chelsea (Justin) Combs, Whitney Pickney, Austin (Maryashly) Sebastian, and Brayden (Emma Claire) Sebastian; and 17 great-grandchildren who will carry his memory forward.

Buddy shared a special friendship with Phillip Carrier, whose companionship meant a great deal to him.

His greatest joy was time spent with family. He was a quiet observer, content to sit back, watch, and listen as the people he loved gathered around him. His steady presence, gentle spirit, and enduring love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Buddy lived a simple life.  His life stands as a testament to kindness, humility, and unwavering devotion to family and community.
